Adam B. Summers is a Research Fellow at the Independent Institute. He previously worked as an editorial writer and columnist at the Orange County Register and its 10 sister newspapers in the Southern California News Group, and a Senior Policy Analyst at the Reason Foundation.

Mr. Summers has written extensively on California and national politics, individual liberty, property rights, law and economics, public pension reform, occupational licensing, privatization, privacy/Fourth Amendment and civil liberties issues, government reform, and various other political and economic topics. In addition to his numerous Orange County Register articles, Summers’s columns have been published by the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Washington Times, Baltimore Sun, Reason magazine, and many others. Summers has testified before state legislative committees in Arizona, California, Louisiana, and Michigan on topics such as public pension reform and occupational licensing regulations.

Summers holds an M.A. in economics from George Mason University and a B.A. with a double-major in economics and political science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
