Large employers should increase wages for the lowest paid of their workforce; adopt down-payment assistance programs for longer-term workers and work to locate jobs in communities with lower housing costs that more closely match their wage scales. They can also advocate for affordable housing in those communities where they already have job centers.

Additional thoughts
In our region the major industries are tourism, agriculture and personal services; jobs growing in number but which do not and cannot pay significantly higher wages. To fully support these critical industries, employers should support financially and support policies that encourage housing and other infrastructure to provide their employees with a quality of life that encourages upward mobility.
